About 3D Printing Academy

Practical skills. Creative confidence. Real-world making.

We help young people, educators and organisations turn ideas into designed and manufactured outcomes through practical computer-aided design and 3D printing education.

Why we exist

Technology becomes meaningful when people can use it to solve, create and communicate.

3D Printing Academy was created to make digital design and additive manufacturing practical, approachable and relevant. We move beyond watching technology and give learners the structure and support to use it for themselves.

Our programmes connect creative thinking with technical capability. Learners develop an idea, build it in CAD, consider how it will be manufactured, test the result and improve their decisions. The finished object matters, but the thinking behind it matters even more.

Make it practical

Learners work towards tangible outcomes rather than treating CAD and 3D printing as abstract concepts.

Make it accessible

We explain technical ideas clearly and shape delivery around age, experience, setting and intended outcomes.

Make it relevant

Projects connect design decisions with problem solving, communication, iteration and real manufacturing constraints.

What makes us different

We teach the complete creative process, not only the software or the printer.

A successful session is not simply one where a printer produces an object. It is one where learners understand why they made particular choices, what changed during testing and how they could improve the next version.

  • Clear progressionActivities are structured so confidence and capability develop together.
  • Real design decisionsLearners consider purpose, size, strength, material, time and usability.
  • Support around deliveryWe discuss the setting and objectives before recommending the right route.
How learning develops

A repeatable process learners can take into future projects.

  1. 01Discover

Understand the need, user or challenge before deciding what to make.

  2. 02Design

Translate ideas into accurate digital geometry using CAD tools.

  3. 03Make

Prepare the design for manufacture and produce a physical result.

  4. 04Improve

Review what worked, identify limitations and develop the next version.

Our commitment

Professional delivery starts with clear expectations.

We aim to be straightforward about what a programme can achieve, what the setting needs to provide and what learners will experience. That clarity helps schools, families and partners choose an appropriate route.

Discuss your requirements
Responsible and appropriate

Delivery is considered in relation to learner age, setting, accessibility and safeguarding requirements.

Education before novelty

Technology supports purposeful learning rather than becoming the lesson’s only focus.

Clear communication

We set out the delivery route, practical requirements and next steps before work begins.
